commit 0a8e98305f63deaf0a799d5cf5532cc83af035d1 upstream. Since commit dfeae1073583("mtd: cfi_cmdset_0002: Change write buffer to check correct value") buffered writes fail on S29GL064N. This is because, on S29GL064N, reads return 0xFF at the end of DQ polling for write completion, where as, chip_good() check expects actual data written to the last location to be returned post DQ polling completion. Fix is to revert to using chip_good() for S29GL064N which only checks for DQ lines to settle down to determine write completion. I believe that the warning/error is legitimate. I first tried adding a test to check that the node mask is not emtpy, since a similar test exists in the case where MAX_NUMNODES == 1. However, adding the if statement causes other warnings to appear in for_each_cpu_node_but, because it introduces a dangling else ambiguity. And unfortunately, GCC is not smart enough to detect that the added test makes the case where (node) == -1 impossible, so it still complains with the same message. This is why I settled on replacing that with a harmless, but relatively useless (node) >= 0 test. Based on the warning for the dangling else, I also decided to fix the case where MAX_NUMNODES == 1 by moving the condition inside the for loop. It will still only be tested once. This ensures that the meaning of an else following for_each_node_mask or derivatives would not silently have a different meaning depending on the configuration. 2022-06-14mailbox: forward the hrtimer if not queued and under a lockBjörn Ardö
[ Upstream commit bca1a1004615efe141fd78f360ecc48c60bc4ad5 ] This reverts commit c7dacf5b0f32957b24ef29df1207dc2cd8307743, "mailbox: avoid timer start from callback" The previous commit was reverted since it lead to a race that caused the hrtimer to not be started at all. The check for hrtimer_active() in msg_submit() will return true if the callback function txdone_hrtimer() is currently running. This function could return HRTIMER_NORESTART and then the timer will not be restarted, and also msg_submit() will not start the timer. This will lead to a message actually being submitted but no timer will start to check for its compleation. The original fix that added checking hrtimer_active() was added to avoid a warning with hrtimer_forward. Looking in the kernel another solution to avoid this warning is to check hrtimer_is_queued() before calling hrtimer_forward_now() instead. This however requires a lock so the timer is not started by msg_submit() inbetween this check and the hrtimer_forward() call. 2022-06-14ptrace/xtensa: Replace PT_SINGLESTEP with TIF_SINGLESTEPEric W. Biederman
commit 4a3d2717d140401df7501a95e454180831a0c5af upstream. xtensa is the last user of the PT_SINGLESTEP flag. Changing tsk->ptrace in user_enable_single_step and user_disable_single_step without locking could potentiallly cause problems. So use a thread info flag instead of a flag in tsk->ptrace. Use TIF_SINGLESTEP that xtensa already had defined but unused. Remove the definitions of PT_SINGLESTEP and PT_BLOCKSTEP as they have no more users. 2022-05-25swiotlb: fix info leak with DMA_FROM_DEVICEHalil Pasic
commit ddbd89deb7d32b1fbb879f48d68fda1a8ac58e8e upstream. The problem I'm addressing was discovered by the LTP test covering cve-2018-1000204. A short description of what happens follows: 1) The test case issues a command code 00 (TEST UNIT READY) via the SG_IO interface with: dxfer_len == 524288, dxdfer_dir == SG_DXFER_FROM_DEV and a corresponding dxferp. The peculiar thing about this is that TUR is not reading from the device. 2) In sg_start_req() the invocation of blk_rq_map_user() effectively bounces the user-space buffer. As if the device was to transfer into it. Since commit a45b599ad808 ("scsi: sg: allocate with __GFP_ZERO in sg_build_indirect()") we make sure this first bounce buffer is allocated with GFP_ZERO. 3) For the rest of the story we keep ignoring that we have a TUR, so the device won't touch the buffer we prepare as if the we had a DMA_FROM_DEVICE type of situation. My setup uses a virtio-scsi device and the buffer allocated by SG is mapped by the function virtqueue_add_split() which uses DMA_FROM_DEVICE for the "in" sgs (here scatter-gather and not scsi generics). This mapping involves bouncing via the swiotlb (we need swiotlb to do virtio in protected guest like s390 Secure Execution, or AMD SEV). 4) When the SCSI TUR is done, we first copy back the content of the second (that is swiotlb) bounce buffer (which most likely contains some previous IO data), to the first bounce buffer, which contains all zeros. Then we copy back the content of the first bounce buffer to the user-space buffer. 5) The test case detects that the buffer, which it zero-initialized, ain't all zeros and fails. One can argue that this is an swiotlb problem, because without swiotlb we leak all zeros, and the swiotlb should be transparent in a sense that it does not affect the outcome (if all other participants are well behaved). Copying the content of the original buffer into the swiotlb buffer is the only way I can think of to make swiotlb transparent in such scenarios. So let's do just that if in doubt, but allow the driver to tell us that the whole mapped buffer is going to be overwritten, in which case we can preserve the old behavior and avoid the performance impact of the extra bounce. 2022-05-12hex2bin: make the function hex_to_bin constant-timeMikulas Patocka
commit e5be15767e7e284351853cbaba80cde8620341fb upstream. The function hex2bin is used to load cryptographic keys into device mapper targets dm-crypt and dm-integrity. It should take constant time independent on the processed data, so that concurrently running unprivileged code can't infer any information about the keys via microarchitectural convert channels. This patch changes the function hex_to_bin so that it contains no branches and no memory accesses. Note that this shouldn't cause performance degradation because the size of the new function is the same as the size of the old function (on x86-64) - and the new function causes no branch misprediction penalties. I compile-tested this function with gcc on aarch64 alpha arm hppa hppa64 i386 ia64 m68k mips32 mips64 powerpc powerpc64 riscv sh4 s390x sparc32 sparc64 x86_64 and with clang on aarch64 arm hexagon i386 mips32 mips64 powerpc powerpc64 s390x sparc32 sparc64 x86_64 to verify that there are no branches in the generated code. These deadlocks could, I believe, eventuate if a buffered read on the swapfile was attempted. We don't need coherence with the page cache for a swap file, and buffered writes are forbidden anyway. There is no other need for i_rwsem during direct IO. So never take it for swap_rw() 2/ generic_write_checks() explicitly forbids writes to swap, and performs checks that are not needed for swap. 2022-04-20PCI: Reduce warnings on possible RW1C corruptionMark Tomlinson
[ Upstream commit 92c45b63ce22c8898aa41806e8d6692bcd577510 ] For hardware that only supports 32-bit writes to PCI there is the possibility of clearing RW1C (write-one-to-clear) bits. A rate-limited messages was introduced by fb2659230120, but rate-limiting is not the best choice here. Some devices may not show the warnings they should if another device has just produced a bunch of warnings. Also, the number of messages can be a nuisance on devices which are otherwise working fine. Change the ratelimit to a single warning per bus. This ensures no bus is 'starved' of emitting a warning and also that there isn't a continuous stream of warnings. It would be preferable to have a warning per device, but the pci_dev structure is not available here, and a lookup from devfn would be far too slow. This needs to go in the vectors. No CPU needs both. While this can be patched in, it would run on all CPUs as there is a single set of vectors. If only one part of a big/little combination is affected, the unaffected CPUs have to run the mitigation too. Create extra vectors that include the sequence. Subsequent patches will allow affected CPUs to select this set of vectors. Later patches will modify the loop count to match what the CPU requires. commit 4fa59ede95195f267101a1b8916992cf3f245cdb upstream. The feature negotiation was designed in a way that makes it possible for devices to know which config fields will be accessed by drivers. This is broken since commit 404123c2db79 ("virtio: allow drivers to validate features") with fallout in at least block and net. We have a partial work-around in commit 2f9a174f918e ("virtio: write back F_VERSION_1 before validate") which at least lets devices find out which format should config space have, but this is a partial fix: guests should not access config space without acknowledging features since otherwise we'll never be able to change the config space format. To fix, split finalize_features from virtio_finalize_features and call finalize_features with all feature bits before validation, and then - if validation changed any bits - once again after. Since virtio_finalize_features no longer writes out features rename it to virtio_features_ok - since that is what it does: checks that features are ok with the device. As a side effect, this also reduces the amount of hypervisor accesses - we now only acknowledge features once unless we are clearing any features when validating (which is uncommon). IRC I think that this was more or less always the intent in the spec but unfortunately the way the spec is worded does not say this explicitly, I plan to address this at the spec level, too. We need to finish all async code before the module init sequence is done. In the reverted commit the PF_USED_ASYNC flag was added to mark a thread that called async_schedule(). Then the PF_USED_ASYNC flag was used to determine whether or not async_synchronize_full() needs to be invoked. This works when modprobe thread is calling async_schedule(), but it does not work if module dispatches init code to a worker thread which then calls async_schedule(). For example, PCI driver probing is invoked from a worker thread based on a node where device is attached: if (cpu < nr_cpu_ids) error = work_on_cpu(cpu, local_pci_probe, &ddi); else error = local_pci_probe(&ddi); We end up in a situation where a worker thread gets the PF_USED_ASYNC flag set instead of the modprobe thread. As a result, async_synchronize_full() is not invoked and modprobe completes without waiting for the async code to finish. Since commit 0fdff3ec6d87 ("async, kmod: warn on synchronous request_module() from async workers") synchronous module loading from async is not allowed. Given that the original deadlock issue is fixed and it is no longer allowed to call synchronous request_module() from async we can remove PF_USED_ASYNC flag to make module init consistently invoke async_synchronize_full() unless async module probe is requested. Several ->poll() implementations are special in that they use a waitqueue whose lifetime is the current task, rather than the struct file as is normally the case. This is okay for blocking polls, since a blocking poll occurs within one task; however, non-blocking polls require another solution. This solution is for the queue to be cleared before it is freed, using 'wake_up_poll(wq, EPOLLHUP | POLLFREE);'. However, that has a bug: wake_up_poll() calls __wake_up() with nr_exclusive=1. Therefore, if there are multiple "exclusive" waiters, and the wakeup function for the first one returns a positive value, only that one will be called. That's *not* what's needed for POLLFREE; POLLFREE is special in that it really needs to wake up everyone. Considering the three non-blocking poll systems: - io_uring poll doesn't handle POLLFREE at all, so it is broken anyway. - aio poll is unaffected, since it doesn't support exclusive waits. However, that's fragile, as someone could add this feature later. - epoll doesn't appear to be broken by this, since its wakeup function returns 0 when it sees POLLFREE. But this is fragile. Although there is a workaround (see epoll), it's better to define a function which always sends POLLFREE to all waiters. Add such a function. Also make it verify that the queue really becomes empty after all waiters have been woken up. On ARM v6 and later, we define CONFIG_HAVE_EFFICIENT_UNALIGNED_ACCESS because the ordinary load/store instructions (ldr, ldrh, ldrb) can tolerate any misalignment of the memory address. However, load/store double and load/store multiple instructions (ldrd, ldm) may still only be used on memory addresses that are 32-bit aligned, and so we have to use the CONFIG_HAVE_EFFICIENT_UNALIGNED_ACCESS macro with care, or we may end up with a severe performance hit due to alignment traps that require fixups by the kernel. Testing shows that this currently happens with clang-13 but not gcc-11. In theory, any compiler version can produce this bug or other problems, as we are dealing with undefined behavior in C99 even on architectures that support this in hardware, see also https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=100363. Fortunately, the get_unaligned() accessors do the right thing: when building for ARMv6 or later, the compiler will emit unaligned accesses using the ordinary load/store instructions (but avoid the ones that require 32-bit alignment). When building for older ARM, those accessors will emit the appropriate sequence of ldrb/mov/orr instructions. And on architectures that can truly tolerate any kind of misalignment, the get_unaligned() accessors resolve to the leXX_to_cpup accessors that operate on aligned addresses. Since the compiler will in fact emit ldrd or ldm instructions when building this code for ARM v6 or later, the solution is to use the unaligned accessors unconditionally on architectures where this is known to be fast. The _aligned version of the hash function is however still needed to get the best performance on architectures that cannot do any unaligned access in hardware. This new version avoids the undefined behavior and should produce the fastest hash on all architectures we support. But if user sets it enough big number (e.g. (size_t)-8), the result of 'data_size + sizeof(struct kretprobe_instance)' becomes smaller than sizeof(struct kretprobe_instance) or zero. In result, the kretprobe_instance are allocated without enough memory, and kretprobe accesses outside of allocated memory. 2021-12-08shm: extend forced shm destroy to support objects from several IPC nsesAlexander Mikhalitsyn

Currently, the exit_shm() function not designed to work properly when task->sysvshm.shm_clist holds shm objects from different IPC namespaces. This is a real pain when sysctl kernel.shm_rmid_forced = 1, because it leads to use-after-free (reproducer exists). This is an attempt to fix the problem by extending exit_shm mechanism to handle shm's destroy from several IPC ns'es. To achieve that we do several things: 1. add a namespace (non-refcounted) pointer to the struct shmid_kernel 2. during new shm object creation (newseg()/shmget syscall) we initialize this pointer by current task IPC ns 3. exit_shm() fully reworked such that it traverses over all shp's in task->sysvshm.shm_clist and gets IPC namespace not from current task as it was before but from shp's object itself, then call shm_destroy(shp, ns). Note: We need to be really careful here, because as it was said before (1), our pointer to IPC ns non-refcnt'ed. To be on the safe side we using special helper get_ipc_ns_not_zero() which allows to get IPC ns refcounter only if IPC ns not in the "state of destruction". Q/A Q: Why can we access shp->ns memory using non-refcounted pointer? A: Because shp object lifetime is always shorther than IPC namespace lifetime, so, if we get shp object from the task->sysvshm.shm_clist while holding task_lock(task) nobody can steal our namespace. Q: Does this patch change semantics of unshare/setns/clone syscalls? A: No. It's just fixes non-covered case when process may leave IPC namespace without getting task->sysvshm.shm_clist list cleaned up. 2021-11-26net: virtio_net_hdr_to_skb: count transport header in UFOJonathan Davies
[ Upstream commit cf9acc90c80ecbee00334aa85d92f4e74014bcff ] virtio_net_hdr_to_skb does not set the skb's gso_size and gso_type correctly for UFO packets received via virtio-net that are a little over the GSO size. This can lead to problems elsewhere in the networking stack, e.g. ovs_vport_send dropping over-sized packets if gso_size is not set. This is due to the comparison if (skb->len - p_off > gso_size) not properly accounting for the transport layer header. p_off includes the size of the transport layer header (thlen), so skb->len - p_off is the size of the TCP/UDP payload. gso_size is read from the virtio-net header. For UFO, fragmentation happens at the IP level so does not need to include the UDP header. Hence the calculation could be comparing a TCP/UDP payload length with an IP payload length, causing legitimate virtio-net packets to have lack gso_type/gso_size information. Example: a UDP packet with payload size 1473 has IP payload size 1481. If the guest used UFO, it is not fragmented and the virtio-net header's flags indicate that it is a GSO frame (VIRTIO_NET_HDR_GSO_UDP), with gso_size = 1480 for an MTU of 1500. skb->len will be 1515 and p_off will be 42, so skb->len - p_off = 1473. Hence the comparison fails, and shinfo->gso_size and gso_type are not set as they should be. Instead, add the UDP header length before comparing to gso_size when using UFO. In this way, it is the size of the IP payload that is compared to gso_size. For architectures like parisc where the stack grows upwards return the pointer to the highest address in the stack. Without this change I faced a crash on parisc, because the stackleak functionality wrote STACKLEAK_POISON to the lowest address and thus overwrote the first 4 bytes of the task_struct which included the TIF_FLAGS. 2021-11-26serial: core: Fix initializing and restoring termios speedPali Rohár

Since commit edc6afc54968 ("tty: switch to ktermios and new framework") termios speed is no longer stored only in c_cflag member but also in new additional c_ispeed and c_ospeed members. If BOTHER flag is set in c_cflag then termios speed is stored only in these new members. Therefore to correctly restore termios speed it is required to store also ispeed and ospeed members, not only cflag member. In case only cflag member with BOTHER flag is restored then functions tty_termios_baud_rate() and tty_termios_input_baud_rate() returns baudrate stored in c_ospeed / c_ispeed member, which is zero as it was not restored too. If reported baudrate is invalid (e.g. zero) then serial core functions report fallback baudrate value 9600. So it means that in this case original baudrate is lost and kernel changes it to value 9600. Simple reproducer of this issue is to boot kernel with following command line argument: "console=ttyXXX,86400" (where ttyXXX is the device name). For speed 86400 there is no Bnnn constant and therefore kernel has to represent this speed via BOTHER c_cflag. Which means that speed is stored only in c_ospeed and c_ispeed members, not in c_cflag anymore. If bootloader correctly configures serial device to speed 86400 then kernel prints boot log to early console at speed speed 86400 without any issue. But after kernel starts initializing real console device ttyXXX then speed is changed to fallback value 9600 because information about speed was lost. This patch fixes above issue by storing and restoring also ispeed and ospeed members, which are required for BOTHER flag. The timeout error causes a soft reset of the drive link, followed in most cases by a successful revalidation as that give enough time to the drive to become fully ready to quickly process the read log commands. However, in some cases, this also fails resulting in the device being dropped. Fix this by using adding the ata_eh_revalidate_timeouts entries for the READ_LOG_EXT and READ_LOG_DMA_EXT commands. This defines a timeout increased to 15s, retriable one time. 2021-11-26binder: use cred instead of task for selinux checksTodd Kjos

Since binder was integrated with selinux, it has passed 'struct task_struct' associated with the binder_proc to represent the source and target of transactions. The conversion of task to SID was then done in the hook implementations. It turns out that there are race conditions which can result in an incorrect security context being used. Fix by using the 'struct cred' saved during binder_open and pass it to the selinux subsystem. The introduced helpers treate one bvec as real multi-page segment, which may include more than one pages. The existed helpers of bvec_iter_* are interfaces for supporting current bvec iterator which is thought as single-page by drivers, fs, dm and etc. These introduced helpers will build single-page bvec in flight, so this way won't break current bio/bvec users, which needn't any change. Follows some multi-page bvec background: - bvecs stored in bio->bi_io_vec is always multi-page style - bvec(struct bio_vec) represents one physically contiguous I/O buffer, now the buffer may include more than one page after multi-page bvec is supported, and all these pages represented by one bvec is physically contiguous. Although the directory for User Mode Linux is ./arch/um; the Kconfig symbol for this architecture is called CONFIG_UML. Simplify the timerqueue code by using cached rbtrees and rely on the tree leftmost node semantics to get the timer with earliest expiration time. This is a drop in conversion, and therefore semantics remain untouched. The runtime overhead of cached rbtrees is be pretty much the same as the current head->next method, noting that when removing the leftmost node, a common operation for the timerqueue, the rb_next(leftmost) is O(1) as well, so the next timer will either be the right node or its parent. Therefore no extra pointer chasing. Finally, the size of the struct timerqueue_head remains the same. Passes several hours of rcutorture. 2021-10-09libata: Add ATA_HORKAGE_NO_NCQ_ON_ATI for Samsung 860 and 870 SSD.Kate Hsuan

Many users are reporting that the Samsung 860 and 870 SSD are having various issues when combined with AMD/ATI (vendor ID 0x1002) SATA controllers and only completely disabling NCQ helps to avoid these issues. Always disabling NCQ for Samsung 860/870 SSDs regardless of the host SATA adapter vendor will cause I/O performance degradation with well behaved adapters. To limit the performance impact to ATI adapters, introduce the ATA_HORKAGE_NO_NCQ_ON_ATI flag to force disable NCQ only for these adapters. Also, two libata.force parameters (noncqati and ncqati) are introduced to disable and enable the NCQ for the system which equipped with ATI SATA adapter and Samsung 860 and 870 SSDs. The user can determine NCQ function to be enabled or disabled according to the demand. After verifying the chipset from the user reports, the issue appears on AMD/ATI SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 SATA Controllers and does not appear on recent AMD SATA adapters. The vendor ID of ATI should be 0x1002. Therefore, ATA_HORKAGE_NO_NCQ_ON_AMD was modified to ATA_HORKAGE_NO_NCQ_ON_ATI. 2021-10-09net: mdio: introduce a shutdown method to mdio device driversVladimir Oltean
[ Upstream commit cf9579976f724ad517cc15b7caadea728c7e245c ] MDIO-attached devices might have interrupts and other things that might need quiesced when we kexec into a new kernel. Things are even more creepy when those interrupt lines are shared, and in that case it is absolutely mandatory to disable all interrupt sources. Moreover, MDIO devices might be DSA switches, and DSA needs its own shutdown method to unlink from the DSA master, which is a new requirement that appeared after commit 2f1e8ea726e9 ("net: dsa: link interfaces with the DSA master to get rid of lockdep warnings"). So introduce a ->shutdown method in the MDIO device driver structure.
